Protecting the Ocean, Preserving the Future.
Our mission is to safeguard the unparalleled biodiversity of the Sanctuary of Fauna and Flora Malpelo, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Since 2016, we have been the vigilant guardians of this pristine marine sanctuary, relentlessly combating illegal fishing and championing marine conservation.
Harnessing the power of cutting-edge technology and renewable energy, we ensure our operations are sustainable and enduring. Our collaboration with Colombian authorities, renowned scientists, and eco-tourism partners allows us to conduct comprehensive monitoring, liberate marine life from entangling fishing gear, and cleanse the ocean of harmful debris.
Through impactful global media outreach and transformative educational programs, we aspire to ignite social and political change, ensuring Malpelo remains a vibrant sanctuary for future generations. Our vision extends beyond Malpelo, as we aim to expand our efforts to protect more vital parts of the ocean.
We are dedicated to safeguarding the Sanctuary of Fauna and Flora Malpelo, ensuring its biodiversity and ecological integrity are preserved for future generations. Our work focuses on rigorous protection measures, leveraging advanced technology and strong partnerships to combat illegal activities and promote sustainable practices. In addition to our primary focus on protection, we also conduct regular debris clean-up operations and run educational programs to raise awareness and foster conservation efforts. Here are the four key areas of our work:

We maintain a constant presence in the sanctuary to detect and deter illegal fishing activities.

Our teams actively pursue and intercept illegal fishermen, seizing fishing gear and freeing trapped marine wildlife.

We work closely with the Colombian authorities, including Parques Naturales Nacionales de Colombia and the Colombian Army, to enforce conservation laws and regulations.

We provide a platform for scientists to conduct essential research, contributing to a deeper understanding of the ecosystem and enhancing conservation strategies.
At Biodiversity Conservation Colombia, we have observed a substantial increase in the population of key marine species since the inception of our project in 2016. Our continuous surveillance and anti-poaching efforts have allowed species like the Scalloped Hammerhead and Silky Shark to thrive in their natural habitat. By maintaining a constant presence in the sanctuary we have safeguarded critical breeding grounds and habitats, ensuring the survival of numerous threatened and endangered species. Our dedicated efforts in marine wildlife conservation have created a more balanced and thriving ecosystem in Malpelo.
Population Growth: Since the inception of our project in 2016, we have observed a substantial increase in the population of key marine species. Our continuous surveillance and anti-poaching efforts have allowed species like the Scalloped Hammerhead and Silky Shark to thrive in their natural habitat.
Biodiversity Preservation: By maintaining a constant presence in the sanctuary and utilizing advanced monitoring technologies, we have safeguarded critical breeding grounds and habitats, ensuring the survival of numerous threatened and endangered species.
Marine Debris Removal: Our dedicated teams regularly conduct clean-up operations, removing significant amounts of marine debris, including plastic bottles, straws, fishing gear, and other pollutants. This has resulted in a cleaner, healthier environment for marine life.
Sustainable Practices: We maximize the use of clean energy in our operations, reducing our carbon footprint and promoting sustainable conservation practices that can be replicated in other marine protected areas.
Collaborative Initiatives: We work closely renowned scientists and eco-tourism partners to promote responsible environmental practices and foster a culture of conservation.
Scientific Research: Our platform provides scientists with the opportunity to conduct critical research, contributing valuable data to the global understanding of marine ecosystems and enhancing conservation strategies.
